The NoorCam MyEye
What if your glasses could read for you, describe the world around you, and even recognize faces? This dream for the blind or visually impaired is now slowly becoming a reality all thanks to the NoorCam MyEye. The MyEye is a small device that clips onto almost any pair of glasses, instantly turning them into smart glasses. Its contents of a mini camera and speaker allow it to read printed or digital text aloud, giving it several uses from helping someone read books, restaurant menus, supermarket labels, and even text messages on their phone, with all the user having to do being point at the area of interest which they want to be read. Another one of the most helpful features of this device is face and object recognition. With a long press of its touch bar, the MyEye stores faces, products, or barcodes into memory, helping recognize family members, friends, or coworkers and also letting the user understand what products they’re holding or what times they are buying, making a huge difference. The device, however, has a few limitations. It needs to be charged quite regularly, and since it provides output through a tiny speaker, it will make it difficult to hear in loud places. Also, it cannot fully describe the complex surrounding environment, so it may not entirely replace other mobility tools like a cane or guide dog. Still, the NoorCam MyEye helps people with low or no vision understand and interact with the world in a more independent manner than before.
